Transylvanian Lunches at our restaurant

04/08/2023

We're kicking off the summer concert season with the captivating ensemble Transylvanian Lunches. Formed in 2007, the band has a rich history and has recently settled into its current lineup: Jozef J.Tekel on saxophone and flute, Janko Lehotský Jr. on bass guitar, Gusto Horváth on drums, guru-ideological founder, and Františko Turák on keyboards, vocals, scat, valve trombone, and trumpet. Over the years, the band has seen various musicians come and go, including guitarists (Miško Bystrický, Adam Noška, Juraj Jašík,...), bassists (Peter Kováčik, Roberto "Cardinale" Fordinal), keyboardists (Andrej "Šepard" Paulov, Denis Gerhardt), percussionists (Ján Taňaši,...), and vocalist (Erika Micheľová). Stylistically, the band aligns itself with fusion-originated rock-jazz and jazz-rock. Their repertoire includes original compositions (such as Petržalský jarmok, Kotlár B.Š., Dream On, Pasodoble pre galoše, Krízová situácia,...) as well as several standards from these genres, mostly performed in their own arrangements.

In late 2018, the band started inviting guest musicians to their concerts, some of them being pleasant surprises. In October 2018, their first keyboard player Andrej "Šepard" Paulov returned for a performance at Club Cafe Studio. Later, in December 2018, keyboardist, scatman, trombonist, and occasional trumpeter František Turák joined the band, marking the beginning of a stable collaboration that lasted throughout 2019-20 and beyond, including studio recordings. Despite the challenging situation, we managed to return to the recording studio intermittently, producing new recordings with our strongest lineup. The result is our latest CD album, now available.
